Twice a year Whitby's harbour town fills with Victorian mourning wear, cyberpunk boots and everything in between — and even skipping the ticketed Pavilion gigs, wandering the free Bizarre Bazaar for handcrafted jewellery, vintage clothing and strange little curiosities is a brilliant free afternoon out.

Pair it with the abbey ruins on the clifftop above and you've got one of the moodiest, most atmospheric days out in the North East.
