It sounds like a joke and it is one, right up until you watch grown adults stirring oats with fierce, silent concentration for the "specialty" round, which allows any ingredient bar salt, sugar, honey and cream. It's proper Highland eccentricity, staged in a village hall in the Cairngorms, and it's every bit as charming in person as it sounds on paper.

Bring the kids, bring an appetite, and expect the whole of Carrbridge to turn out — this has been running for over three decades and the community spirit around it is the real draw.
