Autumn Festival at the Walled Garden

Tucked behind Wollaton Hall's deer park, the walled garden is a genuine hidden gem most visitors walk straight past — this is the weekend it opens up properly, with volunteers on hand to explain a century of horticultural history and show off the newly restored Cucumber House.

It's unhurried and unpretentious: a book stall, plant sales, bric-a-brac and home-baked cake, all for the price of a couple of quid on the door. Bring the dog (on a lead, mind the deer) and make a loop of the wider park while you're there.
