Ten days when Birmingham quietly unlocks the bits of itself you can't normally get into — tunnels beneath the Mailbox, the Victorian catacombs at Warstone Lane, Perrott's Folly's tower open for the first time, and a centenary ride on a 1950s double-decker along the old Outer Circle route. It's the antidote to the same five landmarks every guidebook sends you to.

Most of the 250-plus events are free or close to it, with an access filter on the site for wheelchair users, so it's worth an hour just scrolling the programme and picking two or three that catch your eye.
