Bath Society of Artists 121st Open Exhibition

This is Bath's own answer to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition — over a century running, open to submissions from working artists across the region, hung without a curatorial theme to force it into shape. This year's invited artist is Basil Beattie RA, whose work sits alongside painting, printmaking and sculpture from names you won't have heard of yet.

The Upper Gallery's permanent collection is free to wander regardless, so it's an easy add-on rather than a special trip — and with seven weeks to catch it, there's no need to rush. A good unhurried couples' afternoon, right by Pulteney Bridge.
