Balraj Khanna: Lines of Flight

Balraj Khanna spent six decades turning Punjab childhood memories and post-war British life into small, dense, joyfully coloured abstract paintings, and this is the first exhibition to properly survey that career — more than 40 works, some rarely if ever shown before. It opens to coincide with the 25th anniversary of his Birmingham Hippodrome safety curtain commission, so there's a nice local thread running through it too.

Ikon is free to visit and fully accessible, with talks and family activities running alongside the show — a good one for a quiet weekday wander or a considered couple of hours on a weekend.
